Welcome to SMARTS!

The “Supporting Me About Rights To Sexuality” Project!

SMARTS is a European funded project about sexuality & disability

The SMARTS project aims to better identify the support needs of persons with intellectual disabilities and persons with mental health conditions in the field of sexuality, as well as develop their skills and those of the care providers, to make supported decisions in the field of sexuality.

The expected result will be, on the one hand, for persons with intellectual disabilities and persons with mental health conditions to feel more empowered to make decisions with regards to their sexuality and, on the other hand, for supporters to feel better equipped and skilled to support decision making.

GUIDELINES ON SDM IN THE FIELD OF SEXUALITY FOR FAMILY CARERS, PROFESSIONALS AND SERVICE MANAGERS.

The following Guidelines on Supported Decision Making (SDM) in the field of sexuality are specifically addressed to the three main groups supporting Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PwID) and/or Persons Mental Health Conditions (PwMHC). These 3 groups are: 1) families/family careers 2) professionals working in support services and 3) service managers.
The guidelines will focus on Supported Decision Making (SDM) processes that address the wide range of different real-life contexts in which sexuality is present and that any member of these three groups might face when providing support to Persons with Disabilities from your specific perspective and/or labour context.
